Sustainable Gardens start with Natives
The highlight of my summer was being on the first annual sustainable garden tour sponsored by Potomac Valley Audubon Society. Five gardeners in the Shepherdstown area opened their homes to over 140 individuals to showcase how native plantings can contribute to sustaining pollinators, insects, birds and wildlife, and at the same time, are light on water use and maintenance.
Whether you are putting out containers on a deck, want to put in a small pollinator garden, or are working on "rewilding" some of your property, fall is a great time to install your very own sustainable garden. After a great summer of plentiful rain, this fall promises to be an especially good one for establishing a garden.
My sales this fall begin this weekend at the Berkeley Jefferson Master Gardener Tomatofest. Please come see me at Berkeley County Youth Fairgrounds 2419 Golf Course Rd Martinsburg 10-2. Then I will be having on-site sales starting Sept 3/4/5 from 10a-4p and two other weekends in September. I am clearing out all my potted plants and shrubs this fall so there will be discounts and a good bargain table each week!
