1) Look back at the year and celebrate your accomplishments.

Thanks to many wonderful customers, I sold over 1,000 native plants this year! The interest and demand for native plants make me hopeful, and I look forward to another great year in 2025.

2) Protect your garden investments.

The trees, shrubs, and perennials I planted this year deserve winter protection. Shredded leaves and mulch will protect shallow roots. Young trees and shrubs are caged or protected with tree guards to avoid bark and/or shoot damage from wildlife.

3) Enjoy observing your winter garden.

All our native plants provide food or cover for wildlife during the winter. During this season I can easily spot birds while appreciating the subtle hues of gold and brown in the garden. I make a point to catch every spectacular sunset the winter offers.

4) Start a new garden or expand your existing garden.

It is not too late to prepare a new planting area. I am waiting for another load of chips right now. Simply cut the grass or weeds short, then cover with 8 to 10 inches of wood chips. Come summer, I'll have a new area to plant.

Wishing you all a very happy new year!
