Happy Native Plant Month

One way we can celebrate native plants in April is by planting native trees, shrubs, vines, and perennials. Another way is by participating in educational or community planting efforts, or removing invasives so native plants can thrive. While I enjoy creating my own native habitat on my property, joining with others to do the same in public spaces is a powerful experience. I feel fortunate to have many opportunities to celebrate this native plant month. I assisted the Garden Stewards at the Shepherdstown Public Library with spring garden maintenance (more info here). I am joining parishioners and community members at St Agnes Parish to plant a pollinator garden and native trees on April 26th. Finally, I am selling plants and supporting the 2nd annual Shepherdstown Bee City Fundraiser at Alma Bea Restaurant on April 27th from 4-7pm (more info here). It's a great opportunity to support a good cause and find some wonderful plants.
For my spring sales, I have a variety of "oldies but goodies" as well as some plants that are newer to my garden. Pictured below are some of my spring favorites that will be for sale (L to R). Robin's plaintain "Lynnhaven Carpet" a sturdy groundcover with long-lasting appeal for sun and part shade. Dwarf crested iris is a lovely plant for the woodland garden. Our native wild strawberry is a fast groundcover in sun to partshade and produces edible berries. Finally, pictured on the bottom right, are wild pinks a great low growing and long blooming native great in full sun and part shade. My website shows the entire inventory I will be selling this May and June. Please feel free to contact me if you are looking for specific plants and can't make the plant sales below:
